OSTRAVA – Iron, iron and again iron - this is probably the most frequently used material in our hard coal underground mines. We meet with iron at every turn on the surface premises and underground. Shaft head frames, ropes, rails, locomotives, piping, supports, cutter loaders, conveyors, structures ... It is therefore quite logical that it is necessary to rationally manage such a precious, renewable material, including any discarded idle iron material designed for scrapping.... more
OSTRAVA – From a long-term perspective, OKD has been ensuring qualified labour force for its future needs. In the past, we were educating young people at secondary schools and apprentice centres. We have recently revived the apprenticeship, which will however bring the first fruit only in a few years. Therefore, we also need to work with unqualified labour force.... more

OSTRAVA/PRAGUE – Six experts, who are active in OKD, the mining company, received the “George Agricola” (Mining Industry) Medal from Ivo Pěgřímek, Chairman of the Czech Mining Office. On the occasion of the name-day of St. Barbara, the miners’ patron, this supreme mining award is granted to those who have merit in the mining industry development in a special and unique manner.... more
DARKOV - The first school bell on 1 September also put a quite new OKD Central Educational Centre into operation. The Centre has been opened in the rooms above the rehabilitation facilities in the plant 2 of the Darkov Mine. The Centre is in the pilot run for the time being, i.e. only for the Darkov Mine employees.... more

STAŘÍČ – The Challenge Miner’s Lamp, awarded by the OKD Management, has arrived in the Paskov Mine. It means that the Staříč mine has achieved the best results in the second quarter of this year! “I consider it as an appreciation of staff’s dutiful work performance,” said Director Vladislav Szmek. According to him, the planned mining and metrage targets have been “overfulfilled”, and the results in the area of finance and safety have also been excellent.... more
