On the third day of November, forty apprentice fitters and electricians, who will work in the mines in the future, have learned most about training since they took up their apprenticeship in September. Together with their teachers of expert training from the Secondary Technical and Services School in Karviná, they visited the Paskov Mine‘s training gallery in Staříč.
“Even though we have already taken them to the ČSM Mine and ČSA site of the Karviná Mine and the boys have seen the latest mechanized supports, it was only here where the boys could see the actual mine environment. From the surface, it’s just a couple of steps down the stairs without going down the shaft,” said Jaroslav Sobek, who was responsible for the fitters, and his colleague Pavel Kašička was responsible for the electricians.
The role of the pedagogue was played by Jan Kopel, a retired miner, who had been working in the Staříč Mine for 37 years and
his last position was the Head of Electrical Section. At present, he works as a guide in the mine training gallery, and it was him who explained the current apprentice miners what awaits them at work in the mine. He performed the mucking and road head drilling and took them through an extracted low seam.
However, the first-year apprentices were surprised most by a classical rotary-dial telephone, which is a thing that the generation accustomed to mobile phones does not know any more. “When I asked the apprentices to dial 19 in order to hear the current time, I had to advise
them,” added Kopel.
