In the Senate about corporate responsibility

PRAHA – On Tuesday, 29 March 2010, the politicians were replaced by businessmen, including OKD representatives, in the Senate. With representatives of regions, cities and non-profit-making organizations,  they were discussing the issue of bearing responsibilities for the region development. Most of the attendees agreed that the life of each region must be based on three pillars – large companies, state institutions and people.

The entrepreneurial sector was represented by Petra Mašinová, the Chief PR and Communication Officer, OKD and the Chairwoman of the Managing Board of the OKD Foundation, presenting her contribution. “The regions should say: This is our floor and we would need help here. Of course, we cooperate with the region, but I think there is still much larger room in this area in order for us to work together on many issues which will help people,” said Mašínová. Her opinion was also supported by other participants in the discussion, who added that clear visions are absent in many fields even at the nationwide level.

At the conference, OKD introduced its corporate foundation. “We still need to do much work in order to prove to all people, including the employees, that they themselves as the region residents will also benefit from the funds distributed by the foundation. On the other hand, many people have already joined for example the Pre-Christmas charitable collection,” added Mašínová.

At the conference, which took place under the auspices of Petr Pithart, Vice-Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, contributions were presented for example by Vladimír Pavelka, a representative of the South Bohemia Region, Roman Haken, a member of the Council of the Government for Non-Governmental Non-Profit-Making Organizations, and Petr Holub, a journalist of “Aktualne.cz” (Internet daily).
