Mine rescuers are improving their skills

27.10.2011

Complex training program for mine rescue workers. This is the name of the project, which HBZS (Main Mine Rescue Service) Ostrava got a support from the European Social Fund. It was a year, in the first day of October, when this project started and has the same time ahead. Rescuers learn to apply the practice of psychological processes, work together with the firefighters, improve the medical skills, but also Polish.

"We have finished about two-fifths of training activities from the total amount. We have already passed model of psychology, we are trained in rescue conflict communication, work with stress, assertive defense, burnout syndrome," Václav Tesarčík, HBZS project manager for increasing the level of professional mine rescue, said. They take it seriously and have a great interest in him.

"We have trained in rescue module with firefighters not only from Moravia, but also from Olomouc and Liberec region. In a special, so-called flashover container, we have simulated fire fights in closed buildings in Hamry near Prostějov. In Hronov - eastern part of the Czech Republic we did a climbing interventions when working at heights above free depth, " Tesarčík said.

Guys from HBZS were also trained in disposal of leaked hazardous substances. The event took place on the premises of Diamo state
enterprise in Stráž pod Ralskem with firefighters from Liberec and Ustí Region. They are trained at the Faculty of Mining and Geology at the Technical University in Ostrava about hazardous substances, environmental accidents and "other wastes" handling. At the same time, selected rescuers are learning Polish, which can use for communication with colleagues from neighboring country.

"We can expect training in fire protection of surface buildings and other exercises with firefighters from our region. Topics will be flood with high capacity pumping of water in case of OKD mines emergency, mainly in locations of Karvina Mine and Darkov Mine or eliminating the consequences of collapse of buildings," said Tesarčík.

They got useful "helpers" - a special cutter for reinforced concrete, or stone walls and hydraulic cutting equipment for similar purposes from the European Social Funds for the call outs within the IRS of Moravian Region. "This technology will be useful not only in the educational project, but also in commercial use," said Tesarčík.

Rescuers can also improve their medical skills in the fields of paramedical personnel. "This way is increased the knowledge of the theoretical and practical training in medical interventions in the underground and the surface," said Tesarčík.
