NWR has published a comprehensive booklet, which, for the first time, lists all its activities in the area of social responsibility and sustainable development in 2010.
„Reference to socially responsible activities and projects has already exceeded a single chapter in the Annual Report. This separate publication demonstrates that corporate responsibility forms an integral part of NWR´s business strategy. This is a summary of our achievements in the past year, an overview of our efforts in improving the quality of life of people in the regions where our company is present and the challenges we will face in forthcoming years,” said the NWR Director for Corporate Communication Petra Mašínová.
Corporate responsibility and sustainable development principles are projected into all NWR activities. The company is aware that it must take real deeds and actions that help real people, not just rhetoric, in these areas. As most of NWR activities in the area of corporate responsibility are focused on employees´ welfare, people living in the Moravskoslezský region and environmental protection, this publication provides many examples where the mining company has helped to improve the quality of life of local people. These include the activities of the civic association of St. Barbara supporting the orphans of miners, the halfway house “Heřmánek” at Karviná which helps young people who have left institutional care to start their new lives, the civic association “Filadelfie” at Karviná, which looks for foster families for children in institutional care and provides these families with housing and many others. This publication also reports on the work of the OKD Foundation, which is the main pillar of the company´s socially beneficial activities.
At the moment NWR is redesigning its internal processes in order that the next publication of the 2011 Report on sustainable development would comply with the GRI international standard and was based on measurable objectives and how well there were met.

The code of ethics is not any binding rule of law or internal directive, it represents, however, a moral obligation for each employee of OKD.
