The downcast air-shaft of ČSM-south is the deepest, reaching as deep as 826 metres below sea level while the shaft head is at 277 metres above sea level.

History

The ČSM mine features a relatively short history beginning after the Second World War. In the 50’s prospect holes were drilled in the Stonava vicinity, confirming the existence of a complete carboniferous group of strata. Based on these results it was decided that a mine with two plants would be formed (ČSM-north and ČSM-south). The construction, declared as "Construction of Youth", was commenced on June 16, 1959.

Due to complicated hydro-geological and gas conditions mining could begin as late as at the end of 1968. An extensive capital construction continued in the 90’s and after 2000. On account of that it is expected that the service life of the mine will last until 2028 at least.
