STAŘÍČ At the beginning, this coalface number 084.364 on the level V of the Staříč coalmine seemed promising, but later this coalface became tricky because of the encountered tectonic fault. Mr. Klaus Dieter Beck, the chief executive officer of OKD together with other managers passed through this coalface on Thursday, 18th January.
“We sweated through there,“ he said after going out. Miners agreed with him, because the unexpected fault gave us absolute hell. At the beginning, it looked for up to 1500 tons daily. Then the so called flexural slip fold accompanied with the overthrust fault and inhomogeneous roof surprised us and only 899 tons were mined out only. But thanks to modifications and other steps, there is a hope for the future, explained Zbigniew Janowski, the chief engineer of the Staříč coalmine.
The length of coalface is 190 meters and its average thickness exceeds more than two metres
