Two million tons extracted

23.5.2008

Following the merger of Armáda Works and Lazy Works the new mine soared to record output
KARVINÁ MINE - 2,000,000 tons! That's the greatest amount of coal ever hewn and taken out of the earth at a single mine in our mining district over a period of less than five months. It is the men from Karviná Mine who can boast about this – the ČSA Works and the Lazy Works responsible for the record have contributed 1,150,000 tons and 850,000 tons of coal, respectively. The record day was Saturday, 17 May.

„Never until mid-May was this amount of coal, two million tons, extracted at any mine before. But this outcome is due to the merger of Armáda and Lazy Works that took place in April,“ said Petr Škorpík, Head of Production at the mine. However, they expected that this output by which the production plan was overstepped for the current period would have been achieved at an even earlier date.

But this had not materialized, owing to the „hewing and haulage“ problems they encountered at ČSA Mine during the months of January and February. „Impairment of the mining geology conditions, problems at the working faces. What we are facing is inhomogeneous overhanging rock, intensified manifestations of compression, and more frequent failures of machinery and electrical equipment…“ explained Roman Dušička the Senior Mine Engineer. Now the men from „Armáda“ are looking for a recipe on how to cope with the unfavorable developments. „So as to restart the engine that has operated so smoothly during the early days of the year,“ the Senior Mine Engineer added.

At Lazy Works everything proceeds as planned. The names of those who have contributed most to the over-all success are listed in the table below, but in fact out thanks should go all the manpower of Karviná Mine.

Thus the feeling is that at this what in a way is the „newest“ mine they have done a great thing. „But it is merely one step on the road toward meeting all our tasks laid down for this year. We can't say that we've managed that effortlessly. And we are yet to cope with more than we had to until now; we've got to extract another three million tons. And it'd be even better if it were more than that,“ declared the Production Manager. In this connection, the POP 2010 program holds out quite a promise – Lazy Works is scheduled to receive two new coal extraction complexes as early as this year, and one more should go to ČSA Works.
