The Board of Directors of OKD has adopted a Company code of ethics that is obligatory for all the employees of the firm. It defines basic values and attitudes to enterprise that OKD conforms to in the course of its business activities.

The code of ethics is not any binding rule of law or internal directive, it represents, however, a moral obligation for each employee of OKD.

Our region

OKD is aware of its unique position as one of the most significant enterprises in the Moravian-Silesian district. It strives to participate actively in the development of the region. Besides ensuring job security for thousands of employees the company is striving to improve the environment of the area.

 

The best-known activity of OKD is the operation of the Mining Museum and support for the Landek Foundation.

 

For several years OKD has been leasing its buildings to the private Karviná mining hospital and investing in their reconstruction. The hospital’s main programmes are the centres of occupational medicine, spine diseases and brain diseases.

 

OKD was at the birth of the St. Barbara civic association helping orphaned children. It also supports the Heřmánek halfway house in Karviná, in which adolescent children from children’s homes prepare for “adult” life. Heřmánek teaches them how to find their feet in everyday life situations and how to find a job.

 

OKD is the general partner of the successful Baník Karviná handball club. In 2009, the club has defended the Czech Champion Title and played in the EHF Champions League.  Since 2008, the mining company has been the general partner of the MFK OKD Karviná football club helping the club to get promoted into the Second Football League.

 

In the field of culture, OKD has sponsored since 2008 the international world music festival Colours of Ostrava, concerts at the occasion of the Miners‘ Day or the festival of the modern classical music Ostravské dny 2009 organized by the Ostrava Center for New Music. Traditional sponsoring activities covered in 2008 also the renowned Shakespearean Festival introduced last year for the first time to the Ostrava public.

 

OKD Foundation has been established with the purpose to support health and social care, public sector, environmental care and regional development. During the first two years of its activities, the Foundation supported some 600 projects and provided almost 100 MCZK to non-profit activities. In 2009, OKD Foundation has extended its activities by providing some funds to assist people in extraordinary critical situations. These funds were used already twice during the year.
