Moravian-Silesia is currently a territory in the Czech Republic with probably the most diverse ethnic composition. Due to a complex historical development and frequent changes of borders between states there was a ethnic mixture of Slavic, German and Jewish influence, which translated into many linguistic, demographic and folklore peculiarities. Although the disastrous events of the Second World War almost completely eliminated the strong Jewish and German element, the peculiarities have remained.
Even after the Second World War the region still retained its special character owing to a large Polish minority and proximity to Poland. Industrialization and creation of heavy industry attracted a sizeable Slovakian minority. The multicultural character of the areas lying over the state border is underlined by the fact that the coal-bearing strata does not respect political lines: In Polish Silesia, mines and related sectors predominate as well.
After the political background changed at the beginning of the 90’s, the close bonds across the border with Poland and Slovakia became official and took the form of the so-called Euroregions. Several such micro-regions were formed:

The Board of Directors of OKD has adopted a Company code of ethics that is obligatory for all the employees of the firm. It defines basic values and attitudes to enterprise that OKD conforms to in the course of its business activities.
The code of ethics is not any binding rule of law or internal directive, it represents, however, a moral obligation for each employee of OKD.
