OSTRAVA - A memorable occasion arrived on the second Tuesday of November, at the Mining Academy – Technical University (VŠB-TU) in Ostrava-Poruba. Libor Dürrer from Shared Services Center – Human Resources, Recruitment and Development on behalf of OKD and Vladimír Slivka, Dean of the Faculty of Mining and Geology on behalf of the University have signed a Mutual Cooperation Agreement.
„This is a continuation of our campaign. We have begun with the blue-collar professions, carried on via OKD Academy focused on our employees and their children, and now we are launching scholarships in the academe as well, at university level. Awareness already is mounting that the mining profession will end neither tomorrow nor the day after. It definitely has a future,“ Dürrer declared.
For the mining company however this does not mean solely that it can and, indeed, will draw upon the VŠB-TU for mining specialists it needs so much. For example, the „mining connection“ will provide support or consultations for university theses, will elaborate expert opinions and documentation for practical training, will offer topics deriving from actual practice, potentially to be solved at the Faculty of Mining and Geology...
„May there be more students, and more again. Professionals in excavation as well as in the mining professions are very much in short supply. And this is not just a problem facing the OKD,“ Slivka added. He indicated that the Faculty already is about to take the first step, which is of particular advantage to the mining companies. It actually could recruit university students of mining from Gliwice in Poland for its doctoral studies. There is an abundance of clever students there, who are keen to embark on studies at our University.
