FRÝDEK-MÍSTEK – Petr Filipec, a Staříč Mine bottom cager, repeated his last year’s success, and having reached the finish line with the time of 33 minutes and 58 seconds, he became the winner of the jubilee 25th edition of the Miners’s Ten running races in the OKD category. Ján Fabián, the OKD Chief Development and Strategy Officer, may also be happy because he had wanted to reach the time below fifty minutes, and in the end, he reached the finish line with the time of 47 minutes and 49 seconds.
As is customary in Frýdek-Místek, the best runner was from abroad. Losylo Toth from Hungary won the race with the time of 30 minutes and 13 seconds. Milan Kocourek, the last year’s absolute and historically first Czech winner of the races from the town of Kroměříž, was ranked second with the time of 30 minutes and 18 seconds. The third place was reached by Barnabas Bene, a Hungarian athlete (30:27). “So the Hungarians followed the Polish, Slovak and Ukrainian runners,” says Josef Nejezchleba, Director of the sports event.
The participation in the 25th edition of the popular running race was record-breaking. A total of 1,943 runners appeared on the running track in that day. “In the previous years, the highest number of runners reached was around fourteen hundred. This year a good weather was also with us,” said Nejezchleba adding that at the starting line, there were also two Englishmen and one American. 671 people had filed their applications for participation in the main and jogging races, and in twelve categories designed for children and youth, there were even 709 participants.
“It is pleasant to see again a runner from our mining plant rank first among the OKD personnel. My best congratulations!” said Jiří Hůla, Paskov Mine Manager, who participated together with Director Vladislav Szmek in the event. The mine ranks among the traditional and biggest partners of this sports event. In addition, some of the races within this year’s Miners’ Ten was started by Jarmila Kratochvílová, the world record holder in the 800 meter run.
