KARVINÁ – In these days, the Mining Hospital in Karviná has completed one of its further, relatively demanding reconstruction works. It has prepared highly comfortable rooms for those who have problems with their backbone and who are supposed to stay in hospital for some time. The inpatient department of the Spine Surgery Ward was solemnly put into operation on Tuesday, August 31.
Even the entrance into the inpatient department delivers its significant change. The colourful walls are decorated with large photos taken by doctors directly in the operating room. A collage made of X-ray pictures and a collection of true bolts, applied by the hands of the local spinal spondylolisthesis surgeons during spine operations over the last years, are valuable items of the chief physician of the ward, and have grabbed eyes of many clients. A cosy consulting room with a nurse room, kitchen, sanitary facility – in all these places you can see changes of the existing spaces, as well new furniture, pastel-coloured wall tiling and modern floor covering.
However, the main change pertained to the rooms, which now have two beds and own sanitary facility. The modern medical beds and bedside tables are supplemented by the cabinet furniture made of light wood designed for the patients to place their personal belongings there. The rooms are also provided with TV sets. The ward also includes an air-conditioned above-standard room. In the reconstructed section, windows were replaced.
Up to now, the Spine Surgery and Orthopaedics Ward has been working as one department. However, due to the extended orthopaedic services and an increasing number of clients indicated for surgical interventions, the bed capacity has become insufficient. A realistic solution consisted in forming a separate inpatient department of the Spine Surgery Ward on the 4th floor of “A” Section of the hospital, while the Orthopaedics Ward remaining on the existing premises. They managed to implement their plan over a short period of time.
The reconstruction price climbed to CZK 7 million and was paid by the building owner, which is OKD. One million was invested by the Hospital in additional equipment. The Medicus Endowment Fund provided its financial contribution to cover the costs of medical beds.
