Ostrava (May 18, 2010) – OKD Foundation earmarks up to half a million Czech crowns to help the areas affected by the floods which have recently struck Northern Moravia. The Administration Board has already approved the first fifty thousand for the Czech Red Cross volunteers who have been helping on site since Monday; further funds shall be distributed by the Foundation later on.
“The people from the Ostrava’s Czech Red Cross Regional Association had informed us about the scope of floods even before the media news arrived. Voluntary rescuers help people in the most affected areas in the Karviná and Bohumín districts. They can buy the most needed goods such as bandage, disinfectants or fuel thanks to our funds,” specified Blanka Týřová, OKD Foundation Manager.
The Foundation employees shall continue monitoring the development of the flood situation and make decisions on the use of further funds based on the current situation. “We’ll see where our help is needed most,” added Petra Mašínová, Chairwoman of the OKD Foundation Administration Board.
