OSTRAVA/NOVÝ JIČÍN AREA – Companies from OKD, RPG RE and OKD, Doprava Holdings got involved in helping people and municipalities in the Nový Jičín and Jeseník areas as well as in other parts of the Czech Republic, which were hit by devastating floods.
The OKD Foundation will send CZK 500,000 to the flooded areas. “Already on Friday we were trying to establish directly on the ground whether any social care or a health care institutions, e.g. homes for the elderly, have been flooded. Luckily that has not happened. We will send the money to the account of the Adra Foundation, which coordinates the rescue work and the subsequent aid for the whole region directly on the ground,” the Director of the OKD Foundation Blanka Týřová stated. The Foundation is also considering that it may later launch a special grant that would help to get daily life back to normal in the municipalities that had been hit; it will do so mainly by supporting not-for-profit organisations.
The staff members and machinery of OKD, Doprava and OKD, Rekultivace have helped directly in the most severely hit areas. “Following a consultation with lord mayors and members of the flood staffs we deployed our heavy machinery already on Saturday. We have two container carriers on the ground for the removal of waste, two Tatra lorries, a loader and a combined tractor and excavator, which help mainly in Bludovice and Životice as well as in other places of the Nový Jičín area,” said the Deputy Chairperson of the Board of Directors of OKD, Doprava Bohumil Bonczek on Sunday. On Monday the company provided further heavy machinery.
All employees of OKD and their family members may also help by sending an “employee” DMS and by subsequently informing the Foundation thereof. The OKD Foundation shall double each donated amount up to the maximum amount of CZK 300,000.
