OSTRAVA - In the early 1990s, nobody would bet a single bean on the heavy industry in our Region. Nevertheless after its robust downsizing, it has revived again, becomes more robust and is prospective. In many directions, it is a wheeler of our economy. However, the innovation will not get along without experts, qualified labour force, science or research. And with respect to this issue, there is a stumbling block. There is a lack of educated people in the technical fields. Young people do not rush into the industry very much.
This issue was one of the main topics of this year’s meeting of businessmen with Evžen Tošenovský, Moravian-Silesian Region Commissioner. In the new assembly hall of the Mining University in Ostrava, that meeting was attended, among others, by Václav Roubíček, Senator and President of the Association for the Moravian-Silesian Region Development, Tomáš Čermák, Vice-Chancellor of the Mining University Ostrava, Pavel Bartoš, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Regional Economic Chamber of the Moravian-Silesian Region, Miroslav Fabian, General Manager of the Association for the Moravian-Silesian Region Development and also Ján Fabián, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Development and Strategy Officer of OKD. Together with the present significant businessmen, they have agreed that the heavy industry, which features a rich history and wide background in our Region, is to be supported - including the development of science, research and technical fields of education and study.
These plans were emphasized by the christening of the new spectacular book, titled “Technical Advancement of Moravian-Silesian Region”, in whose publication the Moravian – Silesian Region together with the companies of Vítkovice, OKD, Třinec Ironworks and ArcelorMittal Ostrava participated.
The book, including 176 pages, surveys the current situation in the Region development and identifies the possibilities of its further development. Apart from the historical evolution of the Region and statistical data, it also includes descriptions of advanced technologies and examples of patents and industrial designs which have been devised in the Region, and presents the universities based in the Region and companies with long-lasting tradition, and describes prospects of further development of the Region. The book is particularly designed for the expert public. It is available from the following publishers: Regional Economic Chamber of the Moravian-Silesian Region and Association for the Moravian-Silesian Region Development.
