OSTRAVA – On 17 February 2011, the Confederation of Industry and Transport of the Czech Republic organized a roundtable meeting in cooperation with PricewaterhouseCoopers in the Mining University in Ostrava in order for representatives of significant Czech companies, clusters, Mining University and other entities engaged in public life to discuss the corporate social responsibility.
OKD, which considers its responsible behaviour towards the Region where it operates to be an integral part of its business strategy, was represented by Petra Mašínová, Chief PR and Communication Officer, OKD and Chairwoman, Managing Board, OKD Foundation. “Such discussions are beneficial because we explain different views on issues and share our experience. OKD wants to be a leader and initiator of the platform consisting of key players, i.e., companies, non-profit-making organizations and governmental and local authorities, and this platform should provide such activities with a systematic direction with clear objectives. Fundamental is an active approach to be taken by the Region and towns with a clear vision and strategy with respect to the direction to be pursued by the society in our country. We are ready to respond to such challenges in the areas of environment, regional development and needful changes in the Czech education system structure,” said Mašínová.
Representatives of the key companies based in the Region (AWT, ArcelorMittal, Třinec Ironworks, Dalkia, Brano Group), and also Škoda Auto have agreed that a key precondition for an effective implementation of activities within the corporate social responsibility consists in a vision and strategy to be clearly defined by the political representatives in respect of the direction to be pursued in the areas of economy, education system, development of communities and regions or activities performed by non-profit-making organizations.
