KARVINÁ – A long-awaited moment has come for the very first students of the newly introduced two-year post-secondary-school distance learning programme in Mining and Mining Geology at the Secondary Technical School in Karviná. On Monday morning they were taking the oral part of their graduation exam. The six students answered questions from two subjects: Mining, Technology and Equipment, and Work Safety. Even the Chief Mining Inspector of the Czech Mining Authority in Prague, Radim Mžyk, came to the exam to see how the students will fare.... more

The children at Stonava can look forward to a new school. The Polish elementary school “did not fall in”, as some mass media have informed, but mining impacts can be seen here. The repair started as early as June, when the pupils do not have so much learning, and will be completed before the start of the new school year.... more

OSTRAVA - OKD has completed securing of a concrete channel at Hrabová. In February, the dangerous place was highlighted by the Czech Television, TV Nova and MF Dnes newspaper after a few roes got stuck there. Immediately after consultations with huntsmen, the company ensured rectification.... more

STONAVA (dh) – They had not been here for decades, and all of a sudden they are back. In the pools and brooklets of Stonava, Town Hall staff have counted hundreds of broad-fingered crayfish (Astacus fluviatilis) this week. This vertebrate acts as a weather-glass which is sensitive to the balance in nature. Its comeback is a proof that endangered species can survive even in an industrial region as long as the coal is extracted in a considerate fashion.... more

KARVINÁ – The hand ball giant HC Baník OKD Karviná achieved again a sweeping victory over its competitors and is the best Czech team of the 2007/08 season. The decisive victory took place in a hall of the other finalist and rival in Zubří. The team coached by Rastislav Trtík won there for the third time (they enjoy the cup in a picture by Ivo Dudek). The main sponsor of the team is OKD.... more

OSTRAVA. A city once black, now blossoming! This was the organizers' opinion of the scene where the Fifth annual film festival on sustainable development – TUR Ostrava 2008 – was held. The event sponsored by OKD Corporation was destined mainly for primary and secondary school students. It took place from Monday 21 April till Thursday 24 April, and on Friday 25 April a festive conclusion was held at Imperial Hotel, with prizes awarded to the best films. The main prize for „Wilderness frozen in time“ went to a cameraman, Tomáš Hulík.... more

WISŁA – A conference focused on the "Presentation of mining by the media – experience and prospects" was held on Thursday, 17 April in the town of Wisła, Poland. The meeting was dedicated to public relations issues and to the image of mining companies, the miners' professions, and the coal miners themselves as projected by the media. This singular event was attended by some seventy representatives of mining companies, scientific institutions, universities, and trade unions as well as by PR officers, press agents, and journalists.... more

DARKOV MINE  A financial donation in the amount of CZK 18,650 was presented to Saint Barbara association by the extraction team No. 4 of Darkov Mine, Plant 3 managed by the foreman Rostislav Walica on Wednesday 26 March. The team with 130 members from Ivan Hrubý’s section thus became the first one within OKD to endow the miners’ orphans for the second time. Last year they gave CZK 11,500 to Saint Barbara on 28 March. ... more

Company code of ethics

The Board of Directors of OKD has adopted a Company code of ethics that is obligatory for all the employees of the firm. It defines basic values and attitudes to enterprise that OKD conforms to in the course of its business activities.

The code of ethics is not any binding rule of law or internal directive, it represents, however, a moral obligation for each employee of OKD.
