Only a few high schools in our region can be proud for such as long tradition, as High Industrial School in Karviná. Throughout its existence the school was closely tied to local industry. The goal of the school has always been to prepare high quality, technically literate graduates in the fields of engineering, metallurgical, electrical and mining, according to requirements in certain period of time. A lot of foremen, technicians and OKD managers also have a certificate from the High Industrial School.
The patronage of the celebrations by Moravian Governor Jaroslav Palas and Karviná Mayor Tomáš Hanzel emphasized its significance. Representation of OKD mining company, with which the school closely cooperates, is also expected. Graduates of other specializations, who needs to get knowledge from mining area and mining geology for their profession, also complete qualification here as a part of post-high school studies.
History of High Industrial School in Karviná started in October 1st, 1921, when teaching at the High School of Industrial and Mechanical Engineering began in Karviná. The school was housed in temporary premises at the beginning, but since October 18th, 1923 began teaching in a newly built school in Karviná-Doly. Due to undermining, the school moved to provisional site in Karvina-Nové Město and in 1988 finally moved to new building in Karviná-Hranice. The name of the school has been changed several times. Since 1951, more than 50 years, the teaching of engineering disciplines has been also in Polish language.
Ninety years is a long time in the corporate life. Even if the High Industrial School stays firmly behind its tradition of engineering, it not oppose to the progress. At the end of nineties, the school opened the field of industrial ecology and technical lyceum, and since 2009 offered to students a new attractive field of information technology.
“The school is looking forward, even if it will celebrate 90 years of its existence this year. We think about the future, and therefore expanding the existing teaching in fields of 3D modeling, CNC programming, object-oriented programming and mechatronics. Through excursions, practice in enterprises and companies of the region, participation in professional competitions and ultimately participation in European projects we are creating the reputation of school and prepare our graduates for successful entry into the labor market,” says Česlava Lukaštíková, Director of High Industrial School in Karviná.
