KARVINÁ – Just under fifty centimeters tall, and weighing nearly three kilograms. Those are the measurements of this year's first baby born in Karviná. Honzík Nosek arrived to the world at the Ráj Maternity Hospital on the 1st of January, 2009 just two minutes past three a.m. Proud dad Josef (40) broke the news by SMS messages but his colleagues from OKD took it as a joke, believing it to be just a figment of New Year's Eve party imagination.
„They thought I was joking... We hushed it up from everybody, and kept the pregnancy a perfect secret,“ says the worker from OKD Transport Co. whose job it is to keep coal deliveries going to the heat plant from ČSA Works of Karviná Mine. Not even himself suspected that he'd be excused from work on Friday, 2nd of January, to stay at home with his elder offspring Kuba (10). Because the new baby came in sort of a haste.
„Sunday the fourth was to be the day. But the little one must have heard the New Year's celebration banger and so he'd decide to have a look himself,“ pointed out his mum Silvie (32). She was taken to Ráj Hospital and Policlinic by her husband just after midnight. The Noseks had no inkling whatsoever that precisely their baby might become the year's 2009 first newcomer. But on entering the birthing room they knew for sure already.
Even if we leave aside the fact that the surname Nosek also was the name of a mine situated in Kladno Coal Basin some years ago, we still have to maintain that, in a way, little Honzík is a miner's son. Josef Nosek has passed his apprenticeship in the field of repairs of mining machinery, has done his stints underground aplenty at Lazy Mine and, as he says, has been through a number of different mining professions there. „The longest I was with mine transport. And I kept my loyalty to transport even on the surface,“ he added.
