Mining and municipalities

Mining of coal is often said to be destructive for urban units in the mining area. In contrast to the past, these days the setting of bounds of face working areas is subject to compromise. The conditions of mining are based on proper contracts between the towns or municipalities involved and the mining company. In addition to that, the representatives of the management of the given mines meet on a regular basis with the representatives of the towns and municipalities as well as of civic initiatives with a view to solving relevant issues together.

Of course, coal mining has its undeniable consequences, which are apparent primarily in the damage to the landscape. These mining damages are solved on the basis of applicable laws and regulations and OKD annually expends several tens of millions of Czech crowns for financial settlement of these damages.
