The European Commission, along with leaders from 22 world countries, explored today the best ways to accelerate the commercialisation of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) at the 3 rd Ministerial Meeting of the Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum (CSLF) in London. Carbon capture and storage is a technology that allows reduction of fossil fuel emissions by capturing CO2 from large emitters (such as coal or gas power plants and the steel industry) and store it underground. Bringing down the costs of the new technologies will enable CCS to exploit its full emission abatement potential and contribute to sustainable, secure and competitive energy.... more
In last days the European Commission released the Report on the practical implementation of Health and Safety at Work Directives 92/91/EEC (mineral extraction through drilling) and 92/104/EEC (surface and underground mineral extraction).

The European Commission has decided today not to raise any objections to the plan for accessing coal reserves for 2008–2010 nor to the annual State Aid for the corresponding coal production. The overall support granted by Spain as current production aid amounts to € 1.247bn.... more

Brussels (26.01.2009) – EURACOAL, the European Association for Coal and Lignite, elected Petr Pudil as its new President, succeeding Dr. Maksymilian Klank from Poland, in office since the beginning of 2007. Pudil, a representative of the Czech coal industry, is now President of the Association which represents the European coal and lignite industry.... more
The coal reserves are estimated to last for at least 200 to 300 years, while in the case of oil it is mere 40 to 50 years, and in the case of uranium it is roughly a century. more »

Company code of ethics
The Board of Directors of OKD has adopted a Company code of ethics that is obligatory for all the employees of the firm. It defines basic values and attitudes to enterprise that OKD conforms to in the course of its business activities.
The code of ethics is not any binding rule of law or internal directive, it represents, however, a moral obligation for each employee of OKD.
