Development crews from Paskov find their bearings at a new pitch at Darkov

Two development crews from Paskov Mine were getting used to working conditions at Darkov Mine in the first week of October. The thirty men in the crew led by Vladimír Slíž, Chief Foreman, started working at the auxiliary site of Darkov and found their bearings underground. “Mixed feelings so far, we do not know the Karviná part of the coal district yet; only four of our guys have some experience from the former Dukla Mine,” Slíž describes the mood in his crew. The guys were a bit miffed that they were not to develop a full entry but only start-up channels ready to accommodate a roadheader. “We wanted to show our worth and we cannot really put it on,” they explained. However, they had to put up with the explanation of Milan Čempel, Head of the Development Operations at Darkov, stating that this is the task needed most in the Darkov’s development management system.

“The most important is that we have a job, anyway,” stated Slíž, Chief Foreman. “On the other hand, we keep monitoring all that is going on around Paskov and the political discussions about its future. We hope that, should the mine continue, OKD management would let us go back there,” he expressed his wish.
