A New Foundation of OKD Will Support the Charity, Sport, Ecology and Education

OSTRAVA, November 21, 2007 – In January 2008, the mine company OKD is going to initiate activities of its Foundation  which will support charity projects, sport, ecology, education, science and research and also culture. Most finance will be allocated to  projects in the Moravia-Silesia region, approximately one fifth of the means will be intended to support other business plans within the whole Czech Republic. ”OKD supports interesting long-term projects, in this year,  for instance, it will provide more than CZK  35 mil. for sponsorship activities. After the Foundation establishment, the means will be further increased”,  said Zdeněk Bakala, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company  New World Resources which is a 100% owner of OKD.

The idea to establish a corporate foundation is a logical conclusion of all up to now  sponsorship activities of the Company. ”OKD as one of the most significant enterprises in the Moravia-Silesia region supports many cultural events, sponsors sport clubs, invests  in  industrial monuments, helps to miner orphans. We decided to create a common face to all the projects and cover them by a foundation which will coordinate all activities,“ added the Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of OKD Klaus-Dieter Beck.

In terms of its allocated means, the Foundation will be ranked in the biggest ones in the Czech Republic, while most finances will be kept at the north of  Moravia. ”We will support projects from various areas which will bring benefits to the region and its residents. Simultaneously,  we would like to support small non-profit organizations in development of projects for the European Union grants“ specified Petra Mašínová, OKD PR and Communication Director. A budget and priority fields for the next year will be published by the OKD  management in December.
