Ján Fabián to replace Klaus-Dieter Beck at the head of OKD

OSTRAVA (September 14, 2012) – Ján Fabián will resume the position of CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the hard coal mining company OKD at the beginning of 2013. He will replace Klaus-Dieter Beck at the head of the company who is leaving at his own request for private reasons. The decision has been taken by the Board of New World Resources (NWR), OKD’s mother company.

Mr. Beck is leaving OKD’s management after nearly six years. Over that period, the largest Moravian-Silesian company has undertaken significant changes, in particular thanks to investment worth eleven billion CZK in state-of-the-art equipment and half a billion CZK in work safety. Ján Fabián, the future CEO and currently Mr. Beck’s deputy, OKD Chief Administration Officer and Vice-Chairman of the OKD Board, intends to take on his activities. “It is my major challenge to keep the company’s stability as it is a driving force and a key employer not only in the Moravian-Silesian industry. We will continue in the activities that will provide for high labor productivity and further enhancement of our miners’ safety,” said Fabián.

As of January, Mr. Beck will become the Vice-Chairman of the OKD Board and Director of the NWR Board providing for, besides others, a smooth transition of responsibilities and continuation of the newly implemented processes in capital expenditure, safety and corporate culture. “I would like to express my thanks to all my colleagues in the company management as well as to the miners. With their expertise and teamwork attitude, they belong to the best ones I have ever met in my life,” said Beck who had been involved in management of mining companies in Germany and USA.

Ján Fabián graduated from the Mining Faculty of the Technical University in Košice. From 1991 to 1992, he was working for an American company Colenco Power Consulting in Switzerland in the field of underground radioactive waste storage. In the period 1992 to 1998, he graduated from his PhD studies at the Geo-Sciences Institute at TU Berlin in the course of which he was closely cooperating with mining companies in Slovakia, Germany and Australia. Between 1998 and 2007 he worked in the Czech management team of the world leading consulting company Roland Berger Strategy Consultants. Since 2007, he has been working in the management of OKD, a.s. as Chief Administration Officer, deputy to CEO and Vice-Chairman of the Board. In his function in the top management of the mother company New World Resources (NWR) he is responsible for organizational management of OKD and supervision over other subsidiaries of NWR. Within the selected top management team, he is involved in the preparation and execution of the long-term business strategy.
