Georgius Agricola Awards are conferred by the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Czech Mining Authority to individuals rendering outstanding services to the development of mining industry. The medal bears the name of a Czech – Saxon Renaissance mining expert and scientist who wrote his works “Twelve Books on Mining Industry and Metallurgy” during his stay in Jáchymov. The book published in 1556 in Basel still represents the basis of scientific tracts on mining industry today.
