Mining accident at OKD – Darkov site, 2nd updated version, 10:30 a.m.

DARKOV – 26 January at 6:38 a.m., at OKD 1, Darkov site, an accident happed as a result of which, a 26-year old miner from a contracting company ALPEX, Piotr Czerniak lost his life. His colleague, of the same age, Bartosz Wilk was seriously injured. A Polish Miner was transported to the Municipal Hospital in Ostrava.

The causes of the mining accident was the event of the energy 3,1x105 J, at the development heading in the area of seam 40, block 9, in depth of 1150 m underground. The workplace is rated into grade 3 for risk of mining rock bumps.  

Mining and medical squads were immediately called in and commenced with rescue work and as the same time reconnaissanced the surrounding area. According to the preliminary information, no other injuries of OKD employees have been reported.

Cases and ambit of this operational accident are currently being investigated by an expert committee consisting of the representatives of the District Mining Authority for Moravian-Silesian and Olomouc regions, Police of the Czech Republic, OKD, a.s and Trade Union representatives.

Management of OKD expresses its sincere condolence to the family of a deceased person.
