OKD features among main partners of Colours of Ostrava

OSTRAVA (14 July 2010) – Only hours remain before the opening of the 9th annual multi-genre festival Colours of Ostrava and mining company OKD is part of it all once again. For the fourth time, OKD is supporting the festival as a main partner.

“The Colours of Ostrava festival  is the cultural event of the year in the region where we undertake our business. We are honoured to be a partner of the festival that brings the best of the world’s music to the people of the Ostrava region,” said Petra Mašínová, OKD Chief PR and Communication Officer, explaining the company's support for the event.

The eagerly awaited stars of this year’s edition include Iggy Pop with his band The Stooges, and The Cranberries from Ireland, as well as the stars exclusively from the Czech Republic that will appear on the OKD Czech Stage. These artists include Charlie Straight, Post-it, Gang Ala Basta, Visací zámek and all-time classic acts, such as Blue Effect. Festivalgoers will experience even more enjoyment of the musical performances thanks to comfortable seat cushions, provided for them by OKD. Visitors to the festival will be able to pick up theirs at the entrance.

The stages will be available to various nonprofit projects between the individual acts. OKD supports several hundred such projects every year through its corporate foundation. The OKD Foundation will open its own tent at the festival site on the so-called Black Meadow [Černá louka] where it will present  interesting initiatives it pursues in the region.

As in previous years, OKD held a photo competition for the otherwise sold-out festival tickets and numerous other prizes. The theme of this year’s competition was the historical mining monuments around North Moravia, which people can visit as a part of the project “In the Footsteps of OKD”. The winner was Milan Šurkala with his photo taken at the Training Shaft of the Paskov Mine, which is open to the public.
