OKD has joined the Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic

OSTRAVA (4th May 2008) – At the end of April, OKD has become a regular member of the Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic (SP ČR). The North Moravian mining company can thus participate in commenting the legal ratification processes or be engaged in tripartite meetings. “Via the Confederation we will also get involved in the preparation works for the Czech presidency over the Council of the European Union,” said Mrs. Petra Mašínová, OKD CPRO.

Thanks to its engagement in the Confederation, OKD wants to provide greater influence over the creation of national and international legislation. “Our real-life knowledge will be listened to now. We will be proactive in particular during the creation and discussion of legal acts and strategic documents related to employment, business and energy policy,” specified Mrs. Mašínová.

Among the key activities of the Confederation of Industry there is the communication with the Government, the Parliament, trade unions and international bodies as well as monitoring of recent trends in both Czech and world economy. “Being one of the major private employers in the Czech Republic, OKD has definitely something to offer to others. It will be surely interesting for other Confederation members to learn e.g. the OKD experience with employing foreign workforce through contractor companies. The Confederation may in return offer, among others, recent information on the upcoming legislation or presentation of the company abroad,” Mr. Jaroslav Míl, President of the Confederation of Industry, explained mutual benefits of the membership.

Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic (SP ČR) is a voluntary organization uniting employers and entrepreneurs in the Czech Republic in the field of industry and transportation. It is fully independent of the government, political parties and trade unions. Currently, it has almost 1,600 members representing companies with approximately 600,000 employees.

OKD employs more than 15,000 people and further almost 1,500 employees in its subsidiaries. Coal production in OKD is also provided by approximately 3,500 contractors. Hard coal is mined at Karviná Mine at their sites Lazy and ČSA on the borders between Karviná and Orlová as well as at ČSM Mine and Darkov Mine in Karviná District and at Paskov Mine in Frýdek-Místek District. The average salary in OKD in 2007 equaled CZK 29,135.
