OKD summer trifle not only for the miners: Make your own cartoon strip

OSTRAVA (1st July 2008) – On Wednesday July 2, OKD launches on its web site an application so-far unique in the Czech Republic allowing the web visitors make their own cartoon story. Authors of the most original cartoon strips will be awarded a balloon trip voucher or unique gifts from the mining environment.

“People can choose the environment where the story takes place and select some of the predefined figures. Adding their own text is all what they need to do then,” Mr. Jan Klusáček, Cyber Fox Manager, specified the principles of the so-called strip generator that he had prepared. Pictures are drawn by Miloš Gašparec, cartoonist of the already legendary cartoon strip Hana and Hana published in Reflex Magazine.

Web visitors can see all the already generated strips in the archive file and it’s them who will vote for the best one.

The application generating original cartoon stories is not just a summer trifle; it should also promote OKD web site and mining traditions themselves. “Besides OKD information, our web site covers also other sections on mining history, environment protection or some interesting activities of non-profit organizations in the region for example. We would like to increase the number of our visitors as the web site may offer many unthought-of information and ideas to students or people outside of the mining industry,” explained Vladislav Sobol, Web Site Chief Editor.

The competition “Make your own cartoon strip” will also accompany Colours of Ostrava Musical Festival OKD is the main partner of. Festival guests will get the opportunity to make their own cartoon strips in the OKD Festival Tent where OKD Foundation and St. Barbora Civic Association will also present their activities.
