PRESENTATION OF CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF OKD, DALE R. EKMARK AT 10TH SESSION OF THE COUNCIL OF CITY OF KARVINÁ

Karviná (2nd February 2016) - Dale Ekmark informed the council members with existing situation at OKD and with the outlook up to 2018. In this context, he said that a necessary part of OKD restructuring will be a closure of certain non-prospective sites.

„In particular, we are reviewing our possibilities at OKD 3 (Paskov) and OKD 1 (Lazy and Darkov sites), as well as a closure of areas that have been or will soon be mined out like a Northern part of the mining territory at OKD 2 (ČSM Mine).

We would like to create a much leaner organization that will be sustainable in the new environment of low coal prices. Our goal is to transfer OKD and have it completed by 2018. A long-term mining outlook indicates that a future OKD will most likely consist of OKD 1(ČSA site a former Karviná Mine) and OKD2 (ČSM Mine). We have recently received an approval for EIA which will be absolutely key for our future to ensure future of extension at Karviná. In this regard and in view of the future size of OKD, it appears that the viable and sustainable headcount will be in range of 5 to 6 thousands of employees.“

According to CEO, OKD will become a smaller, however a competitive company. With regard to coal and commodity prices, there is no other alternative. „It is for everybody´s benefit so that the company continues operating, keeps supporting local municipalities and suppliers, pays wages as well as sizeable taxes into the state budget,“ Dale Ekmark added.

A particular time schedule will be finalized in course of upcoming months together with the adjustment of a business plan.
