Sweeten the children’s life: Drahomíra Tošenovská got her way over the Governor

Ostrava (31st August 2008) – The evaluation of sweet cakes in the competition “Sweeten the children’s life” the proceeds of which are supposed to support the St. Barbora Civic Association, opened into a very interesting situation. Whereas Mr. Evžen Tošenovský, Governor of the Moravian-Silesian Region, voted for the poppy-seed “Prussian cake”, his wife Drahomíra Tošenovská who was at the same time the chairwoman of the jury got her way and with the help of other jury members awarded the first prize to the “Countess’ cake” baked by Věra Halvová from Paskov.

It was the Governor’s Prussian cake made by gardeners from Ostrava-Hošťálkovice that was awarded with second prize and a fourteen-year old Dominik Hladík made the apple strudel himself and won the third prize.

People brought 18 competition and several non-competition cakes of various tastes and sizes to the OKD Mining Festival. It was less by half than last year; on the other hand the proceeds from their sales were higher than last year – CZK 3,929 in total.

St. Barbora Civic Association helps children whose parent died due to a job-related accident. The association provides funds on school fees, textbooks, dorm fees, interest groups, convalescence stays, ski trainings and other extraordinary expenses.

OKD is the main partner and one of the founder members of the Association; other members are OKD partner and supplier companies as well as individuals.
