Work safety at OKD keeps improving

Ostrava (August 5, 2009) – OKD has achieved another improvement in the field of health and safety protection at work in the first half of 2009 as the injury incidence rate dropped by 21 percent.

From January to June 2009, the company recorded altogether 166 job-related accidents incurred at its workplaces. Compared to the same period of 2008, it represents a decrease by 44 equalling an injury incidence rate drop by 21 percent. OKD has also evidenced a significant decrease in the seriousness rate of individual accidents.

The results achieved are backed up in particular by the responsible attitude of all employees and the implementation of new equipment within the POP 2010 programme. The positive trend was also supported by the implementation of new personal protective equipment and upgrade of gas indicating instruments.

“The results confirm that the stricter safety actions that we have adopted recently show good results. Our employees get more and more used to the new rules which, together with the implementation of the state-of-the-art protective equipment, help reducing the risk of accidents. I believe that this trend will continue further on and we will have less and less serious accidents in future,” said Leo Bayer, OKD COO.
