Mining and municipalities

Coal mining is often said to destroy communities in the mining area. Unlike in the past, a compromise has to be reached nowadays to define the conditions of mutual co-existence.  There are regular agreements concluded between the mining company and the municipality/community setting forth the conditions of coal mining. On top of this, the representatives of individual mines meet on a regular basis with the representatives of municipalities/communities and civic associations to deal with current problems together.

Indeed, coal mining has its undeniable consequences clearly seen in landscape damage in particular. These mining damages are settled based on valid legal regulations and OKD spends several tens of millions of Czech koruna every year on financial settlement of these damages.
